History/Overview

If you see the “Sport” label on a Land Rover, that means you’re looking at a smaller, less-expensive version of another of the brand’s models: in this case, the Range Rover Sport is closely related to the Range Rover, Land Rover’s flagship SUV model.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

The Range Rover Sport has been completely redesigned into a third generation for 2023.

Available Trims

Land Rover offers the Range Rover Sport in Dynamic S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, and First Edition trim levels. The first two models use a 3.0L turbo six-cylinder engine with mild hybrid assist; Dynamic HSE gets a similar engine with a plug-in hybrid system; and First Edition gets a 4.4L turbo V8. All trims and powertrains use an eight-speed transmission and AWD.

Standard Features

Dynamic S comes with power-folding side mirrors with driver’s-side auto dimming, rain-sensing wipers, auto on/off auto-levelling LED headlights with high beam assist, 20-inch wheels, a power tailgate, passive keyless entry, and height-adjustable air suspension.

Inside, there’s a heated steering wheel, dual-zone A/C, electric steering wheel adjustments, a 13.1-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, a digital gauge display, a Meridian stereo, an auto-dimming interior mirror, integrated garage remote, heated/12-way power front seats, power-recline rear seats, and leather upholstery.

The standard safety bundle comprises forward collision mitigation, surround-view cameras, driver condition monitor, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Dynamic SE adds 21-inch wheels, 20-way front seats, a heated steering wheel, and occupant protection assist.

Dynamic HSE models gain 22-inch wheels, a digital rearview mirror, ventilated front seats, heated/ventilated rear seats, and a head-up display.

Finally, First Edition trim gets 23-inch wheels, pixel LED headlights, fog lights, 22-way front seats, and rear seats with winged headrests.

Key Options

Range Rover Sport options include a driver assist pack of adaptive cruise with steering assist, and driver condition response.

A hot climate package bundles four-zone A/C, a front console refrigerator, and air purification; the convenience bundle comprises a hands-free tailgate, rear side sunshades, and cargo partitions.

A tech package brings a digital rearview mirror, 120-volt power outlets, and a head-up display.

Fuel Economy

Land Rover’s fuel consumption estimates for the Range Rover Sport are 12.3/9.0 L/100 km and 13.1/9.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for six-cylinder mild hybrid models; V8-powered models are rated for 15.1/11.1 L/100 km. As we write this, Land Rover has not published ratings for the plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Competition

The Range Rover Sport’s competitors include the Genesis GV80, Porsche Cayenne, Maserati Levante, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q8, and Volvo XC90.
